How many of you thought, I’m going to drink dark roast coffee, thinking the caffeine content is greater?
Well I am definitely one of those people! But in reality light roast has slightly more caffeine!
Before coffee beans are roasted, coffee beans are green fruit seeds that come from Coffea Plants. The greens coffee beans are then roasted in large rotating drums. The beans are heated from 5 to 15 mins and then cooled and packed up.

Light Roast
Light roast’s are roasted between 350*F and 400*F
Take anywhere between 5 to 10 minutes
Light roast has a bright crisp acidic flavor
Dark Roast
Dark roast‘s are roasted above 400*F
Take close to 15 minutes and above
Dark roast has a bold and robust flavor

So does Light Roast have more Caffeine then Dark Roast?
Dark roast tends to be slightly lower in caffeine after being roasted. Dark roasted beans puff up with air and expand when cooked. So when measuring coffee by volume, light roast brewed coffee contained about 60mg of caffeine while the same amount of dark roast contained about 51mg of caffeine. And then again this could vary by batches
On average a cup of coffee contains about 100mg of caffeine and it could differ between the roast, beans, and the way it’s brewed but not by much.
